about

Wait. This can’t be a Mischievous Badger record. Those two guys on the cover aren’t wearing ridiculous clothing and none of the songs have any sort of food in the title! That will probably be the reaction of those familiar with Mischievous Badger’s previous two EPs We Take Ourselves Very Seriously and On A Voyage. But there’s an explanation for this new, mature MB. Both band members are now legally adults. And as they enter the real world, their music has taken on a slightly wiser and more introspective persona. Of course, no Mischievous Badger album would be complete without tasteless humor (Study A Broad), songs that make zero sense (Cell 47) and huge organ solo jams (Dog Eat Dog). But you will also hear such new musical approaches as a touching love story (Bobby And Angelina), a political statement (The Lemming Club) and a lullaby (Just A Dream). Another new musical approach was having a real, live, breathing human being play drums on the album! The outstanding drummer Eric Friedman contributed beats to five of the eight tracks, who was hired after the Pro Tools drum machine kept showing up an hour late to rehearsal. Eric is one of those rare drummers who is also a real musician; be sure to check out the soul nourishing guitar solo he contributed to “Just A Dream.”
If you’re afraid that Mischievous Badger is growing up too fast, don’t be. Any band that rhymes “fornication,” and “United Nations” can’t be too mature. But you will find that the music here can appeal to an audience besides teenage boys, and may even be touching. So go forth and enjoy the first full-length release from these two adults. Their sense of humor will thankfully never grow up.
